Nature: Automatic Fire Alarm

On Friday, April 16^th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm (AFA) incident at Giant Foods on Plaza Drive in Long Neck. 

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. 

Emergency response crew assignments included a facility evaluation to identify the source, access the annunciator panel to identify relevant information for the alarm system, evaluation of the interior and exterior of the facility as well as the roof HVAC units. 

It appears that the building did have a lite haze amongst the interior areas of the facility, the annunciation panel did not yield any abnormal operation; however, audible and visible alarms were present.  The building was evacuated upon arrival of emergency response crews.  An extensive evaluation of the HVAC and refrigeration units did not identify any concern.  It was reported that HVAC-R service personnel did work on the roof top units prior to the incident.  Natural ventilation allowed the haze to dissipate.  The incident was marked under control and all units were returned to quarters.  The store management was advised accordingly.

The Delaware State Fire Police provide traffic control and limited perimeter access.
