Nature: Medical Emergency / Skateboarding Incident – River Road

On Sunday afternoon, April 11th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad with a landing zone assignment associated with a reported subject fallen on River Road between Layton Davis Road and Chiefs Road. 

Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. 

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with patient stabilization if needed, traffic control with road closure between Layton Davis Road and Chiefs Road for the duration of the incident, as well as landing zone designation.

It appears that a person riding a skateboard on River Road east of Layton Davis Road fell and required advanced medical assistance.  The Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad emergency response personnel provided such assistance before being transferred to awaiting Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2.

After the aviation unit departed the incident location, Tanker 80 crew was utilized to washdown the incident location and secure the personal belongs of the skateboarder.

The injured person was transported to Christiana Hospital.
