Indian River Mourns the Passing of Firefighter – Joseph M. LeVan, Sr.

 

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is saddened to announce the passing of Joseph M. LeVan, Sr. an active Delaware volunteer firefighter of the volunteer fire service for over the past 50 years.

Indian River wishes to offer its condolences and deepest gratitude to the families and loved ones of Joe.  We wish to offer the LeVan Family as well as any extended families and friends our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Joe’s tenure in the Delaware Volunteer Fire Services spanned more than 50 years, 10 months, and 20 days where he served in the following capacities:  Firefighter, Second Lieutenant, Second Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, and was awarded a Life Membership in the Goodwill Fire Company of New Castle.  At Indian River, Joe served as Firefighter, DVFA Delegate, DVFA Alternate, Chairman of the Fund Drive Committee, and participated in many functions and committees within the county, state and regional fire service entities. 

Joseph culminated his tenure in the Delaware Valley Fire Chiefs Association in 2014 by serving as its President.  Joseph was a staunch supporter of the volunteer fire service in the tri-state region and participated in many regional associations representing the fire service. 

Joseph joined Goodwill Fire Company in 1970 at the age of 19 and later joined Indian River in 2001.  Joseph was awarded a Life Membership for his active participation in fire company operations and for his years of devotion and dedicated volunteer fire service.
