Nature: Structure Fire - Assist Georgetown (77)

Address: Breasure Rd & Dupont Blvd Georgetown, DE 19947

On Friday afternoon, August 9th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Dagsboro (73) fire companies were alerted to assist Georgetown (77) Five Company with a working structure fire on DuPont Blvd. just north of Breasure Road near the Georgetown Speedway. It was reported to be a working structure fire.

Emergency response units from Indian River were Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility.

The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center provided constant updates and assignment information while emergency response units were traveling to the incident location including but not limited to methods of travel for all units knowing that DuPont Highway was closed due to the incident and the heavy traffic impact as a result of coming and going beach traffic.

Indian River units were to assist with manpower and water resources. Engine #80-1 was assigned to supply Ladder 83 with water while they were operating at the rear of the residential structure.

It appears that the residential structure fire was reported to the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center by passing motorists.

The fire did cause substantial damage to the residential location.

The origin of the fire is being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office.
