Nature: House Fire

Location: Subject Trapped Confirmed

On Saturday, July 27th, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach (86) Volunteer Fire Company with a working residential structure on North Drive in the West Bay Park in the Angola area. It was confirmed that the residential occupant was inside the structure at the time of the incident.

Emergency response units included: Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility, Engine #80-1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, the Sussex County Paramedics, the emergency medical service units from Rehoboth Beach and Lewes; as well as the Delaware State Police, the Delaware State Fire Police, and the Office of the State Fire Marshall.

Initial confirmation reports from arriving Delaware State Police units identified smoke and fire conditions.

Initial arriving fire line officers requested immediate implementation of primary search with two 1¾” fire suppression attack lines, other arriving units were to supply manpower resources as well as water supply resources to the committed apparatus.

The Delaware State Fire Police were ordered to clear the fire grounds of all non-emergency response personnel.

The residential occupant was extricated and transported to nearby medical facilities.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the origin for the fire.

Two emergency response units were required to remain on-scene for extensive overhaul and investigative purposes with the Office of the State Fire Marshall.

Emergency crews from Lewes, Indian River and Rehoboth Beach are on the scene a structure fire on North Drive in the Angola Neck area. Multiple crews from other departments are also helping out or are standing by the active stations. The call came in just before 9am and Fire Police have closed North Drive t o traffic.

 UPDATED 3:40 PM: A resident is being treated after being rescued from a fire in his home this morning.

Firefighters from the Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Indian River Fire Companies were called for a fire in a home on North Drive in West Bay Park in the Angola Neck area just before 9 o'clock this morning. Delaware State Troopers who were the first emergency responders to arrive found smoke and flames coming out of the home. The person who was inside was rescued, and was taken to the hospital to be treated for undisclosed injuries.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

  UPDATED: Resident Rescued After Fire In North Drive Home in Angola Dies

UPDATED 9:25 PM: The man who was rescued from a burning house in Angola Neck has died.

Neighbors and Delaware State Troopers who first responded to the fire were unable to get in to rescue the man because of the heat, smoke and flames. Firefighters from Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and Indian River were able to put out the flames and rescue the man, who was taken to Beebe Hospital, where he later died. Two dogs were also found dead inside.

The Fire Marshal's Office is estimating damage from the flames at $30,000. Investigators say there were working smoke detectors inside the home, and are looking at their role in the fire. The man's name is being withheld until his family can be notified.

Fire Company Confirms One Man Killed in House Fire

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - One man was killed in a house fire around 9a.m. Saturday morning in Sussex County.

It happened in the 34000 Block of North Drive, in the West Bay development of Rehoboth Beach.  

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company said the man was trapped inside, and they found the victim in the side bedroom of the home.

The Rehoboth Beach Fire Company said the victim was transported to Beebe Hospital, but later died as result of the fire.

The Fire Company also said two dogs were killed by that fire in Rehoboth Beach.

The victim has not yet been identified.

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched July 27,  at 8:58 a.m. to a reported working house fire with possible subject trapped in the 34000 block North Drive, in the development of West Bay  Park, off Camp Arrowhead Road.  The Lewes Fire Department, Indian River Fire Company and Sussex County EMS were also dispatched to assist the Rehoboth firefighters.  

The victim, a male subject, was found by Rehoboth Beach and Lewes firefighters in the side bedroom.  He was removed by the firefighters and transported to Beebe Medical Center by Rehoboth Beach Fire Company EMS and Sussex County paramedics.
 

Delaware State Troopers and neighbors tried unsuccessfully to rescue the victim, but were driven back by the heat and smoke.  Also, two dogs were found deceased in the residence by firefighters. The Delaware State Fire Marshal Fatal Investigation Team is investigating the incident.  The Bethany Beach Fire Company covered the Rehoboth Beach district during the alarm.
