Nature: Structure Fire
Location: Oak Orchard Rd and Chief Rd Millsboro, DE 19966
On Wednesday, March 17th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for structure fire on Oak Orchard Road in the vicinity of Chiefs Road.
Within the previous three minutes, Indian River was originally alerted for an automatic fire alarm (AFA) incident at the AMVETS, Post #2 on Long Neck Road. Immediately thereafter, Indian River was alerted for a structure on Oak Orchard Road – Tanker 80 responding to the initial dispatch was redirected to the structure fire.
Tanker 80 arrived under the direction of 80-15 and upgraded the incident to a working structure fire with smoke showing and requested additional resources including the Sussex County Paramedics, the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, and the Delaware State Fire Marshall.
Tanker 80 initiated two 1¾” fire suppression lines to the interior of the structure while performing a primary search of the vacant residential structure. Additional resources were directed to access the roof for a ventilation assignment of the structure and search for extensions into the walls, floors, and attic area. Other resources were directed to ventilate the structure, assist with overhaul while preserving the structure for evaluation via the State Fire Marshal and establishing a water supply.
The Lewes and Millsboro fire companies were utilized to perform some of the aforementioned tasks as well as establishing a manpower pool.
The utilities to the residential structure were already shut-off as the utility company was requested to attend the location to remove the residential electric meter.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
