Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 26221 Cove Dr., Millsboro, DE 19966

Early Tuesday morning, March 16th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a working structure fire on Cove Drive in the Mariner’s Cove development off Long Neck Road.  This was a second alarm notification for Indian River and Lewes fire companies who were assisting the Milton (85) Fire Department on an earlier residential structure fire.

The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reported receiving numerous calls with smoke and fire showing through the roof of the residential structure - Mariner's Cove.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Other ancillary alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.

Emergency response crew assignments fire suppression tactics, interior search and advancement of hose lines for interior fire suppression efforts, water supply operations, assistance with stabilizing the occupants of the residential structure, establishment of a manpower pool, ventilation, salvage and recovery measures, traffic control and scene assess limitation, notification of the utility service providers for disconnection activities, as well as overall incident management.

Initial arriving emergency response units provided a size-up summary which identified a double wide manufactured residential structure with smoke showing and fire through the roof.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residential occupants with temporary housing accommodations.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and access measures.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
