Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

On Monday, July 1st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Banks Road in the vicinity of Winding Creek Village. It was reported to be a two vehicle collision on the sharp curve.

Emergency response units included but not limited to Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police and the local emergency medical service provider.

It appears that a blue Saturn Ion was traveling east on Banks Road attempting to navigate the sharp curve when a truck traveling west sideswiped the Saturn. The driver of the Saturn needed to be extricated utilizing a technique known as “door pop” to gain greater access and egress.

Emergency response crews were assigned to initiate vehicle stabilization and patient stabilization, if needed; initiate extrication with the door pop maneuver; scene preservation and traffic control. This section of Banks Road was closed for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
