Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Medics
Location: ITAO - 23484 Sloan Rd Harbeson, DE 19951
On February 18th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Sloan Road in the Pinewater Farms development. Upon arrival of a first responder, the alert was upgraded to include occupant entrapment with a single vehicle overturned.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility. Additional emergency alerts included the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included preparation for vehicle extrication, vehicle stabilization with efforts to secure the vehicle, assistance with patient stabilization where and if needed, traffic control and overall incident mitigation.
It appears that a KIA SUV was traveling on Sloan Road and lost control for an unknown reason and left the roadway, striking a tree stump and tree while overturing on the riverbank and marshy area. The vehicle’s occupant was unable to extricate from the vehicle therefore the windshield was removed to permit egress. One person was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observation.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and scene preservation for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
