Junior Volunteer Firefighters Receive Recognition

On Friday, May 17th, three junior volunteer firefighters attending the Sussex Central High School from the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company received an addition elective credit towards graduation upon completing 90 hours of community service. Established by the Delaware General Assembly in 1998 and allows students grades 9-12 to earn 1 elective credit.

The volunteer hours completed as part of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company or any service group may also be used towards the Delaware Volunteer Credit. Volunteer activity cannot be political or advocacy in nature and must be performed at a non-profit agency in Delaware. Volunteer Service must be approved by the State Office of Volunteerism.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is proud to recognize the following firefighters for the completion of this initiative:

• J. Chase Atkins;

 Chase aspires to pursue post-secondary education at Delaware Technical & Community College in Georgetown, Delaware.

• Trevor G. McCandless  (http://www.irvfc.com/profile.cfm?id=432); and

 Trevor aspires to pursue the military by joining the United States Marine Corp.

• Jacob E. Miller (http://www.irvfc.com/profile.cfm?id=357). 

 Jacob aspires to pursue post-secondary education at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.

These high school seniors will graduate within the next few days.

Congratulations are offered to all of the aforementioned volunteer firefighters.
