Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

On Monday evening, April 29th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident involving a school bus at the intersection of John J. Williams Highway and the entrance to the Pines of Long Neck. It was reported to be a two vehicle collision with children located on the school bus.

Emergency response units included: Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility, the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance, the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police.

Emergency response assignments included vehicle stabilization; patient stabilization, if needed; traffic control measures and incident mitigation to allow for an investigation by school district officials as well as the Delaware State Police.

It appears that school bus was traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway attempting to turn into the Pines of Long Neck and was struck in the rear by a green Plymouth Neon type vehicle. The Neon became lodged under the school bus.

The Sussex County Paramedics were able to quickly identify and determine that no injuries existed to the children of the school bus as well as the operator of the car.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
