Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment
Location: Plaza Dr and John J William Millsboro, DE 19966
On Friday, January 8th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at the Plaza Drive intersection. It was reported as a two-vehicle accident with occupant entrapment. Additional emergency alerts were transmitted to the Sussex County Paramedics, Mid Sussex Rescue Squad, the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, as well as the Millsboro Volunteer Fire Company Emergency Medical Services.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Command 80 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, assistance with patient stabilization pending arrival of other EMS units, traffic control, fluid and debris recovery as well as overall incident mitigation activities.
It appears that a Nissan Sentra sedan was traveling on John J. Williams Highway and struck from behind by a Mercedes E-300 sedan causing significant damage to both vehicles. It was identified immediately upon arrival of initial emergency response units that there was not any entrapment involved with this incident. The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit – Trooper 2 was cancelled. The local EMS units did transport vehicle occupants to nearby medical facilities for additional evaluation.
The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance for the duration of the incident. Additional fire police units were requested with units responding from Millsboro (83) and Georgetown (77) to aid. A segment of John J. Williams Highway was closed for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
