Story

Indian River Tallies Fire Prevention & Safety Awareness Activities in Calendar Year 2020….

For the past 66 years, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company has had the pleasure of providing some of the best fire suppression, fire prevention and safety awareness events as well as educational awareness services within our fire district.  However, Calendar Year 2020 has been the most cumbersome by far.  Indian River has built strong friendships, partnerships, dedicated mutual aid responses, and most importantly, gained hundreds of loyal followers and constituents during these times.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll on many non-profit organizations, large and small, especially those who provide valuable first responder services.  Our organizational entity was not excluded from these challenges and our Fire Prevention Coordinators were tasked with providing fire prevention and safety services within our fire district. The volunteers championed a spectular fire prevention and safety program that achieved the following milestones performing these services:

  1. Distributed and installed 591 free smoke detectors,

  2. Visited 619 homes and offered fire prevention and fire safety messages as well as coordinated a community canvas campaign discussing fire prevention,

  3. Performed 69 fire prevention specialized activities including milestone cavalcades while distributing fire prevention and safety material, (i.e., birthday, graduation, fire responder recognitions, Powerpoints and zoom presentations for Daycares and local elementary school, as well as Make-A-Wish, employee appreciation, teacher appreciation, student appreciation activities, et. al.)

  4. Traveled 2,884 miles performing fire prevention activities within the Indian River Fire District,

  5. Printed and published 95 fire prevention and safety-oriented messages via our social media formats and other public service announcements and distributed targeted pamphlets and publications to local businesses for distribution consuming 12 reams of paper.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company publishes this information to highlight the multitude of fire prevention and fire safety activities that have been coordinated by your volunteer fire company personnel.  In total, the volunteers of the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company donated approximately 546 hours of their personal time to perform these specific services within the fire district and reached approximately 2,567 residents.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company wishes you the very best as we leave these unprecedented times of Calendar Year 2020 and looks forward to a safe, joyful, prosperous, and healthy New Year in 2021!

Be safe and God Bless.
