Nature: Automatic Fire Alarm – Upgraded to Structure Fire

On Monday, December 21st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic fire alarm at Renaissance Nursing Home on John J. Williams Highway.  This incident alert was upgraded to a structure fire with additional response from Lewes (82) Fire Department, Millsboro (83) Fire Company, Mid Sussex (91) Rescue Squad, and Sussex County Paramedics.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Ladder 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engines #80-3 and #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as Incident Command 80 from the Angola area and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression activities, evaluation and monitoring of HVAC systems and interior heating sensors, and overall incident mitigation to identify source of incident.  The staging and manpower pool resources were utilized to evaluate the roof and heating ventilation systems atop of the structure.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.
