Nature: Washdown (Fuel Spill)
Location: From Indian Town Farms To Miller Road along Mount Joy Rd
Address: Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, DE 19966
On Monday morning, December 14th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a washdown incident along Mount Joy Road.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police from Indian River (80) and Millsboro (83).
Emergency response crew assignments included incident mitigation and resource accumulation to fulfill the following assignments: traffic control, fluid and debris recovery in the area from the Indian Town Farms development along Mount Joy Road to the Miller Road development.
It appears that a trash truck performing its routine trash collection activities busted a hydraulic line and was unaware of the leakage traveling from inside the Indian Town Farms development to the Miller Road development along Mount Joy Road. The Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) was requested to provide a sand truck, street sweeper truck and supervisor. This segment of Mount Joy Road was closed for the duration of the entire incident.
DELDOT was spreading sand and street sweeping to mitigate the incident.
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control is investigating.
The Delaware State Fire Police provide traffic control assistance for this incident.
