Saturday March, 16 2013 @ 9:00 Nature: In-service Training – Computer Aided Dispatch – Apparatus Operations
On Saturday morning, March 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company hosted a firefighter in-service training to train the volunteers with the recently installed computer aided dispatching (CAD) units in some of the fire company apparatus. This in-service training was familiarization, demonstration, and train the volunteers with the advantages of the newly installed computer, its functionalities, and operational usage. These devices are monitored via global positioning systems (GPS) and can provide real time incident information, location driving directions, as well as monitoring routes of traffic and other vehicle information. Currently, there are two engines and the incident command unit equipped with this technology. The esimtated installation are approximately $5,000 per unit and annualized operational costs are $2,000 per annum. |
