Nature: Structure Fire
Location: 35143 Homestead Way Lewes, DE 19958
On Thursday afternoon, November 19th, the Indian River (80) and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach (86) Volunteer Fire Company with a structure fire on Homestead Way off Camp Arrowhead Road. Emergency response units from Rehoboth Beach identified this incident was not a structure fire but in fact a woods and brush fire with exposures to multiple fuel tanks (both diesel and gasoline) and may have originated as a result of downed power lines in the area. There were multiple locations of concern for the incident along Camp Arrowhead Road.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard area and a brush truck (Brush #80-00) request from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Tanker 80 was assigned to coordinate a defensive position and prevent the spread of the fire from accessing the marsh area off Camp Arrowhead Road. Lewes and Rehoboth Beach responding apparatus were assigned similar assignments pursuant to the Chief 86.
Additional resources were requested from the Delaware Forestry Service with a forestry plow and the Delaware Electric Cooperative to offset the downed power line issue in order to accommodate better access to the incident.
