Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

On Saturday evening, March 9th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on River Road in the vicinity of the Indian River Yacht Club. It was reported to be a vehicle versus a residential structure with unknown condition of the vehicle’s occupants.

Upon arrival of Deputy Chief Steven R. Hawkins, it was identified as having a single vehicle into the residential structure with minor damage; however, the vehicle’s operator remained in the vehicle pending arrival of emergency response personnel.

It appears that a Ford Ranger pick-up was traveling on River Road, rounding the sharp curves, and left the roadway striking the decking of the residential structure. Both the vehicle and structure suffered damage.

Emergency response units included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility. All emergency units were apprised to travel to the incident location via Layton Davis Road due to the tidal flooding conditions on River Road.

Emergency response crews were assigned to assist with vehicle stabilization, patient stabilization, and traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The operator of the vehicle was transported to nearby medical facilities for additional observations.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
