Nature: Electrical Hazard

Location: River Rd and Chief Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Sunday evening, November 15th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an electrical hazard on River Road in the vicinity of Chief’s Road.  It was reported to be an electric hazard with primary electrical line arcing because of tree limbs which is the direct result a utility pole guide wires being loosened.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Additional resources were requested from the utility services providers – Delmarva Power and Verizon.

Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate traffic control on River Road because of low hanging wires and Chief’s Road because of wires into trees.  The utility pole at the intersection of Chiefs Road and River Road needed guide wire reinforcements.  Delmarva Power temporarily disconnected electrical service to the immediate area to permit needed renovations.

The Delaware State Fire Police remained on-scene for the duration of the incident to provide traffic control.

Emergency apparatus from Indian River departed the incident location as a result of a higher priority incident in Bay City.
