Inattentative Cooking Ignites Kitchen Curtains 

On Thursday evening, January 31st, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a building fire on Devon Drive in the River Winds development off of Oak Orchard Road. It was reported to a building fire as a result of inattentative cooking which resulted in kitchen curtains catching fire.

Fire Lieutenant Joseph H. Thompson, III responded directly to the incident location and updated responding apparatus of the situation at hand.

Emergency apparatus response was limited to Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility. All other apparatus was held at their respective fire station.

It appears that the kitchen curtains were ignited as a result of inattentative cooking and quickly extinguished by the residential occupants.

Emergency response crews were assigned to evaluate the interior of the residential structure and assist the homeowners where necessary.
