Nature: House Fire – Assist Rehoboth Beach (86)

On Wednesday evening, January 9th, the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company (86) was alerted for a residential structure fire in the vicinity of Lincoln & Jefferson streets. The Lewes (82) and Indian River (80) were requested to assist at the scene while Milton (85) and Bethany Beach (70) were requested to provide stand-by coverage for the duration of the incident. The initial calls to the Rehoboth Beach Emergency Operations Center (Rehoboth Center) identified a smoke condition being emitted from the second floor area of the structure.

Indian River’s emergency response units included Engine #80-1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility while Engine #80-3 responded from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crews were required to assist with fire suppression activities where requested as well as providing a crew to serve as the rapid intervention team (RIT team), if needed.

Initial Rehoboth Beach units that arrived on-scene provided an incident synopsis which include a heavy smoke condition with flames visible from the roof area. Responding apparatus were assigned to coordinate initial fire suppression, establish a water supply by accessing nearby fire hydrants, and prepare for establishing aerial operations.

Other responding apparatus were requested to charge the large diameter hose tapped into the hydrants.

The Delaware State Fire Police were utilized to assist with traffic control measures for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshalls’s Office is investigating.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is today trying to determine what sparked a house fire in Rehoboth Wednesday night.

Firemen from Rehoboth, Indian River, Lewes, Milton and Bethany got the call just after 6 p.m.; arriving units found heavy smoke and flames shooting from the roof of the home on Lincoln and Jefferson Streets.

No word on if there were any injuries in the fire.

Fire Damages Home in Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Authorities say a late Wednesday afternoon fire caused thousands of dollars in damage to a home in Rehoboth Beach.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said the blaze broke out at around 5:30 p.m. at the home located on the unit block of Lincoln Street.

The Rehoboth Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and was assisted by the Lewes and Indian River fire departments. Upon arrival they encountered fire showing from the roof area. 

No injuries were reported. Damages have been estimated at $50,000.

Investigators have determined that the fire originated on second floor and the cause remains under investigation.
