Wednesday January, 9 2013 @ 16:47:46 Nature: Vehicle Accident ALS (Pedestrian Struck) Address: Oak Orchard Rd and John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro, 19966 On Wednesday, January 9th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a personal injury vehicle accident in the area between Trading Post Plaza and the American Legion Post #28. The initial calls to the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) identified that a pedestrian was struck while attempting to cross John J. Williams Highway. Second Assistant Chief Mario Street arrived in the area and coordinated the Incident Command functions and was able to verify that a male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling west on John J. Williams Highway. Emergency response units included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility. Emergency response crews were required to assist with patient stabilization where necessary and identify if any vehicle stabilization measures if needed. The local emergency medical provider was utilized for pre-hospital emergency medical care and to transport to nearby medical facilities. The Delaware State Fire Police were utilized to assist with traffic control measures for the duration of the incident. The Delaware State Police are investigating.
