Tuesday January, 1 2013 @ 13:46:29 Nature: Structure Fire Location: 34660 - 34748 Gooseneck St., Millsboro, DE 19966 On Tuesday, January 1st, 2013, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82) and Millsboro (83) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a reported working structure fire on Gooseneck Street in the Pot Nets Bayside development off of Long Neck Road. It was reported via the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) that heavy black smoke was being emitted from the eaves of the residential structure. Emergency response units included Engine #80-1 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-3 and #80-5 from the Long Neck facility. Additional resources from Millsboro and Lewes were actively responding to the incident location. Engine #80-3 arrived on scene and provided an initial update with nothing showing from the exterior of the structure. Upon additional evaluation, it was identified as a malfunctioning residential heating system backfire. All other emergency response units were downgraded to Indian River units only with Tanker 80 being cancelled as well. Indian River units remained on scene to document and evaluate the issue.
