On Sunday, December 30th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for three (3) incidents throughout the day.

(1) At approximately 10:55 a.m., Indian River VFC was alerted for an automatic fire alarm incident at residential placement center in the Falcon Crest development off of Beaver Dam Road. All responding apparatus (Engine #80-1 and #80-3) were cancelled while driving to the incident location.

(2) At approximately 4:40 p.m., the Lewes (82), Rehoboth (86), and Indian River (80) volunteer fire companies were alerted for structure fire on Gardner Way in the Plantations East development off of Plantations Road. All responding apparatus from Indian River (Engine #80-1 and #80-3) were cancelled while driving to the incident location.

(3) At approximately 6:14 p.m., Indian River was notified of vehicle accident on Oak Orchard Road near the entrance to River Village, Caravel Drive. It was reported to be a two vehicle collision possibly head-on with no injuries.

Utility 80-8 responded to the incident location to evaluate and immediately upgraded the incident requesting vehicle occupant evaluation based upon circumstance. It was determined that two vehicles collided with one vehicle having a pregnant woman and two year child onboard desirous of additional evaluation.

Emergency response units include Utility 80-8 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility.

Emergency response crews were requested to assist with patient stabilization, perform vehicle stabilization and fluid recovery measures. While the Delaware State Fire Police were requested to coordinate traffic control for the duration of the incident.

Traffic along Oak Orchard Road was limited to one lane for the duration of the incident.

It appears that a Jeep Cherokee was traveling south on Oak Orchard Road attempting to turn left in River Village and collided with a Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling north causing front end damage to both vehicles.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
