Nature: Structure Fire
Location: 32491 North Ave, Riverdale, Millsboro, DE 19966
On Thursday evening, August 27th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), and Millsboro (83) fire companies were alerted for structure fire on North Avenue in Riverdale Beach. It was reported to be residential structure fire with the interior of the residence filled with smoke.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area, Engines #80-1, #80-3, and Incident Command 80 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Other ancillary alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the local emergency medical services provider.
Emergency response crews were requested to access the facility to ascertain the source of the smoke. Tanker 80 and Engine #80-3 were at the incident location with all other fire apparatus staging on River Road until further notice. One engine from Lewes was diverted to provide coverage for potential second alarm in the fire district.
After evaluation, it was determined to be part of the HVAC air handling system located in the facility's attic area and the property owner was requested to contact their respective HVAC repair personnel.
Indian River’s Fire Prevention Team discussed with the homeowner about smoke detectors and provided working smoke detectors in the residential structure.
All units were able to return to respective fire stations.
