Sunday December, 2 2012 @ 19:32:56 Nature: Carbon Monoxide Detector Activation Address: 24849 Rivers Edge Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Sunday evening, December 2nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a carbon monoxide (CO) detector activation at 24849 Rivers Edge Road in the Stonewater Creek development off of Indian Mission Road. It was reported that all three CO detectors on the second floor of the residential structure were alerting. The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) advised all occupants to vacate the residential structure pending arrival of emergency response apparatus. Emergency response units included the Incident Command Unit and Engine #80-03 from the Long Neck facility, as well as Engine #80-1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility. Emergence response crews were assigned to don appropriate self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) gear and enter the residential structure with gas meters to evaluate the gas detection devices on the second floor of the residence. Additional assignments to ventilate with natural measures were completed as well as shutting off the connections for heating and cooking purposes. Continuous monitoring of gas levels were performed and reported while on location. The Incident Command Officer discussed various options with the residential occupants which included making contact with representatives of the heating and cooking appliances for additional evaluation. The incident was placed under control and all apparatus was returned to their respective stations. |
