Nature: Residential Rescue

On Saturday afternoon, November 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, the Sussex County Paramedics and the local emergency medical provider were alerted for a residential rescue incident at 23 Ritter Drive, William Ritter Manor in Long Neck. It was reported that a person’s leg was trapped under a car.

It appears that an individual was working on a car, maybe exchanging tires, and the jack failed causing the car to fall onto the person’s leg.

Emergency response units included: Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility; Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility; as well as the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Police and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crews were assigned to assist with patient stabilization, perform vehicle stabilization, and prepare for vehicle immobilization via the air bags for lifting purposes.

Upon stabilization of the vehicle, deployment of the air bags, the vehicle was lifted to secure the removal of the person’s leg, and to safeguard the vehicle.

After consultation with the Sussex County Paramedics, the injured person refused any additional medical attention.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided scene and traffic assistance for the duration of the incident.
