Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment - Rollover
Location: Mount Joy Road and Virgies Lane Millsboro, DE 19966
On Thursday, August 13th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment involving a vehicle rollover. Additional alerts included the Sussex County Paramedics and the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad as well as the Delaware State Fire Police and the Delaware State Police.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard facility; Engines #80-1, #80-3 and Incident Command 80 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control with the closure of Mount Joy Road between Cannon Road and Cordrey Road; vehicle stabilization where needed; fluid and debris recovery as well as incident mitigation activities.
It appears that a Volvo 4-door sedan was traveling north on Mount Joy Road attempting to round the curves and loss control of the vehicle running off the roadway, striking a culvert and tree while overturning. Upon arrival of Chief #80-15 it was identified as a single vehicle rollover with two occupants entrapped. Emergency response units were apprised of the update and upon arrival, the occupants were extricated from the vehicle.
All of the vehicle's occupants refused transportation to nearby medical facilities.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated the roadway closure as directed.
The Delaware State Police are investigating.
