Sussex County Emergency Managers Requesting Storm Damage Reports

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center is requesting county residents and business owners to send in damage reports from Tropical Storm Isaias. That way, officials can map out the information and possibly use for a federal disaster application.

Officials are asking owners' whose property sustained storm-related damage to report it online. They can select which property was damaged, whether that be commercial, residential or public infrastructure, and locate their address on an interactive map. Damage must be the result of tropical storm Isaias, which passed through Delmarva on Aug. 4.

“Public reports are one of the most important tools emergency managers have when it comes to assessing the extent of damage from an event like this. Property owners can be our eyes in the field and provide us critical information that, when combined, gives us a more complete picture,” Emergency Operations Center Director Joseph L. Thomas said in a statement. “That’s why we’re asking for the public’s input, because it helps us better understand the magnitude of the damage, and it also could help the area earn federal assistance.”

Information collected will be used for assessment reports that are shared with the Delaware Emergency Management Agency for consideration toward any future federal disaster assistance application.
