On Tuesday, July 28th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident with possible occupant entrapment on Indian Mission Road in the vicinity of the Mid Sussex Rescue Squad.  It was reported to be a two-vehicle collision involving a trash truck with an occupant trapped in the vehicle.

Emergency response vehicles from Indian River included Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility and Rescue 80, Tanker 80 and 80 Command from the Oak Orchard facility.  Additional emergency alerts included Sussex County Paramedics, Delaware State Police, Delaware State Fire Police, Christiana Care Helicopter – Life Net 2 and the local emergency medical services providers were dispatched.

Emergency response crew assignments included assistance with patient stabilization if needed, vehicle stabilization, traffic control, fluid and debris recovery, and overall incident mitigation.  Prior to arrival of emergency response units, bystanders were able to open the door of the car and free the driver.

One patient was transported for further evaluation.

The aviation units and Tanker 80 were canceled prior to arriving at the incident location.

The Delaware State Fire Police closed the roadway until the vehicles could be removed.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
