On Sunday evening, July 5th, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Dagsboro (73) volunteer fire companies were alerted for a water rescue incident near Paradise Grill. Additional emergency alerts included the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit (Trooper #2), the Delaware DNREC Marine Police, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the local emergency medical services provider. It was reported that a white boat ran into the jetty leaving Paradise Grill possibly ejecting one person and the boat continued onward towards the Peninsula.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Command 80 and Utility 80 with 80 Marine 1 from the Oak Orchard area, Engine #80-1, Brush 80-0 and 80 Marine 2 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included launch marine units from the Pot Nets Bayside area, coordinating a search pattern and searching for the ejected person, Engine #80-1 and 80 Command were sent to the Paradise Grill location to gather additional information, the search efforts were commencing with the DNREC Marine Police, 80 Marine 1 and 80 Marine 2 off the Paradise Grill waterfront area. It was identified that the communications with the boat operator yielded that everyone was accounted for. Millsboro and Dagsboro marine units were underway from the respective launch points as well.
It was further determined that the boat and boat operator were docked in the Pot Nets Bayside area and the United States Coast Guard and the Delaware Marine Police were coordinating the investigation and all fire response crews were permitted to return to the respective quarters.
The emergency medical services were obtaining their necessary documentation for patient refusals.
The Delaware State Police Aviation Unit was cancelled as well.
