No one was injured when fire destroyed a mobile home near Rehoboth Beach this afternoon, displacing three adults and two children.

Deputies from the state Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the blaze that was reported at 12:18 p.m. in the 19000 block of Norwood Street in the West Rehoboth area, said Deputy State Fire Marshal Randall Lee.

When Rehoboth Beach firefighters, assisted by crews from Lewes and Indian River, arrived, flames were coming from the mobile home.

The singlewide manufactured home, which was not equipped with working smoke detectors, was occupied when the fire started.

An investigation determined that the fire started in a back bedroom by a malfunctioning kerosene heater, Lee said.

Damage was estimated at $6,000.

The American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula is assisting the victims with their emergency needs.
