Nature: Vehicle Accident

Location: American Legion Post 28

Address:  31768 Legion Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Saturday morning, June 20th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on John J. Williams Highway at the intersection of Legion Road.  It was reported to be a two- vehicle collision involving a utility pole.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 and Chief 80 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck area as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Two BLS ambulances were requested to the incident location with one responding from Millsboro (83) and one from Lewes (82).

Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle stabilization, assist with patient care if needed, fluid and debris recovery, traffic control with the closure of John J. Williams Highway as well as incident mitigation efforts.  The utility service provider was notified for a utility pole replacement.

It appears that a maroon Honda sedan and silver Toyota SUV collided at the intersection from an unknown reason causing significant damage to both vehicles.  The Honda veered off the opposite side of the roadway striking a utility pole causing it to snap in two.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and road closure assignments for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
