On Sunday morning, September 16th, the Indian River (80) and Bethany Beach (70) fire companies were alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company with a water rescue incident in the Rehoboth Bay near West Bay Park. It was reported to have three persons on a vessel yelling for help with possibility one person in the water approximately 300 yards offshore.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Utility 80-8 with 80 Marine 1 and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Brush 80-0 with 80 Marine 2 from the Long Neck facility. All of Indian River’s vessels were to be launched from the Massey’s Landing Public Boat Ramp facility.

Emergency response marine units from Bethany Beach were to launch near the Indian River Inlet area with Rehoboth Beach marine units being launched into the Rehoboth Bay area.

The Incident Command operations were assumed by the Rehoboth Beach (86) Volunteer Fire Company.

All vessels were launched and responded to the West Bay Park area of Rehoboth Bay.

Indian River marine units were in the Rehoboth Bay near the Camp Arrowhead area when emergency response units were cancelled.

It was determined that these individuals were dropped off near the marina area and the vessel departed.

The Delaware Department Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) – Marine Police Division, the Sussex County Paramedics and other mutual aid responders assisted with the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Police units coordinated securing the ramps at the various marinas.
