Nature: Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

On Friday afternoon, June 5th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on Oak Orchard Road in the vicinity of Tidewater Utilities. It was reported to be two vehicles with possible entrapment in both vehicles.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police, Delaware State Police ground and aviation units, Sussex County Paramedics, Millsboro EMS and other local emergency medical services.

Emergency response crew assignments included immediate closure of Oak Orchard Road in all directions, preparation for extrication on both vehicles involved, patient stabilization, vehicle stabilization, traffic control, landing zone preparation, scene preservations, fluid and debris recovery, and incident mitigation.

It was reported that a black Dodge Durango and Ford F150 Pick Up were traveling on Oak Orchard Road when both vehicles collided.  The Dodge Durango suffered extensive driver’s side damage with the driver trapped and the Ford F150 suffered extensive front-end damage with the driver trapped as well.  A total of three persons were transferred to medical facilities with one being flown via aviation.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
