Nature: Structure Fire
Location: 35446 Joanne Dr Millsboro, DE 19966
On Saturday, May 23rd, the Indian River (80), Millsboro (83), and Lewes (82) fire companies were alerted for a structure fire on Joanne Drive in the Mariner’s Cove development off of Long Neck Road. It was reported to have a smoke condition coming from the structure and under the middle section of the residential structure.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80, Rescue 80 and Utility 80 from the Oak Orchard facility; Engines #80-3, #80-1, and Brush 80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police. Additional alerts included the local emergency medical services provider, the Sussex County Paramedics, and the Delaware State Fire Marshal.
Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression in the crawl space of the residential structure, identify and determine the source of the incident, evaluate for fire extensions, positive pressure ventilation of the structural, and notify utility service providers for disconnection of services. Apparatus responding from Millsboro and Lewes were utilized at the incident location as well as providing standby coverage for Indian River.
It was identified that smoke was coming from the residential structure as well as from the middle section of the crawl space. Upon accessing the crawl space area, there was a fire situation that was extinguished by the burning through the water lines and the fire suppression efforts of the firefighters. The smoke conditions entered the HVAC system and was transmitted through the house.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control as well as incident access for the duration of the incident.
The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.
