Initial Alarm – Structure Fire – Lingo Estates: On Monday morning, August 27th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was initially alerted for a residential structure on Lingo Lane off of Long Neck Road. It was reported to be a vehicle and residential structure involved. Other dual response companies included Millsboro (83) and Lewes (82) fire companies. Indian River’s Duty Officer – Steven C. Deery, Jr. coordinated the activities associated with this incident. Chief Deery arrived and determined that a double wide manufactured home and Ford pick up were involved in the incident and much of the fire was extinguished by quick thinking neighbors. Emergency response apparatus from Indian River included: Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facilities as well as Engine #80-1, Rescue 80 and Tanker 80 from the Oak Orchard facility. Upon arrival of Chief Deery the emergency response was downgraded to just Indian River with Millsboro and Lewes being cancelled with many thanks. Emergency response crews were required to evaluate for extensions, monitor the heat conditions within the residential structure, interior walls, crawl space and attic eaves, etc. An additional requirement to ventilate through positive pressure was coordinated to mitigate any interior smoke and odor of fire as well as scene preservation measures. The scene preservation measures were critical in order not to disturb any potential evidence associated with the incident. The Delaware State Police and the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating.
Second Alarm – Automatic Fire Alarm – Windswept – The Peninsula While mitigating the incident activities at the aforementioned alarm, the Indian River VFC was alarmed for a second alarm at the Windswept townhouses in the Peninsula. Emergency response apparatus included: Engine #80-1 and Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard facility. This incident resulted in a faulty detector in the east end of the building. |
