Nature: Structure Fire (Assist 86)

On Wednesday morning, August 8th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist Rehoboth Beach (86) Fire Company on a working structure fire on Prospect Street in the corporate town limits of Rehoboth Beach. Additional companies from Lewes (82) and Bethany Beach (70) were requested to the incident location as well as other mutual aid companies were alerted to provide stand-by coverage assignments.

Emergency response units from Indian River included: Engine 80-1 and Rescue 80 responded from the Oak Orchard facility as well as Engine #80-3 responded from Long Neck facility.

Emergency response apparatus assignments included to assist with fire suppression activities.

The Delaware State Fire Marshall is investigating.

Crews battled a fire in the Rehoboth Beach area this morning.

An official with the Rehoboth Beach Fire Company says the first call came in for a fire at 6 Prospect St. at about 8:30 a.m. today.

The multi-alarm fire was listed as under control in less than 45 minutes, an official said.

Firefighters from Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Indian River and Bethany Beach battled the blaze.

The state fire marshal is currently on the scene looking into the cause of the fire

Firemen from Rehoboth Beach and Lewes are on the scene of a blaze at 4 Prospect Street in Rehoboth Beach.

Firefighters are on the scene of a house fire at the south end of the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach.

Units from Lewes and Rehoboth Beach responded to a call at 8:11 a.m. and are still cleaning up the blaze, which appears to have broken out on the first floor of a home on Prospect Street, a short distance beyond the south end of the Boardwalk.

No one was home and no injuries have been reported.  The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

WGMD UPDATE: Rehoboth House Fire Sparked by Lightning Strike

 UPDATED STORY 08.09.12:  The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is now investigating to determine if lightning sparked a fire at a beach-front home in Rehoboth Wednesday morning.

Firemen from Rehoboth and Lewes got the call just after 8 a.m. for the blaze on Prospect Street; firemen say it appears the blaze broke out in the basement or first floor of the home; no one was at home at the time and there were no injuries. 

UPDATED STORY 08.09.12:  The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office says Wednesday’s morning’s house fire in Rehoboth was indeed caused by a lightning strike.

Firemen got the call just after 8 a.m.; heavy smoke was pouring from the house on Prospect Street when firemen arrived on the scene.

The house was not occupied at the time of the fire.  No injuries were reported.  Damages have been estimated at $600,000.
