On Wednesday, August 1st, 2012, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was presented with a community donation via the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore – Community Heroes Program. The presenter was 10 year old – Jacob Klingler. Jacob is an aspiring Young Marine via the American Legion Post #28 USMC JROTC Program and was identified as a Community Hero via CAT Country 105.9 on May 30, 2012. As part of this recognition effort, Jacob identified the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company as his charity for which he directed his monetary donation towards. Jacob attended Indian River’s monthly General Membership meeting and presented President Miller and Chief Deery with this financial contribution via the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore (see http://www.cfes.org). Jacob is only years old 10 but works hard helping the residents in our community with anything asked of him. He is at the fire house every weekend although he is not old enough to be a member he participates in fire house functions and the maintenance of the equipment and grounds. He helps to provide fire prevention education to local Girl Scout & Boy Scout troops as well as his school. Jacob takes pride in the knowledge he has obtained through the fire company and hopes to join the fire company when he becomes 16. He recently assisted in the building of a handicap ramp for a veteran who was in need. Jacob has been a member of the Sussex County Young Marines for the past year, and has aspirations of becoming a marine when he graduates from high school."
