On Monday morning, April 13th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company as was many other fire companies in Sussex County were alerted for numerous wires down, trees down, wires arching, and other ancillary calls associated with the high winds and gusts with the passing weather conditions.

Emergency response units included:  Brush #80-00 and Utility 80-11 from the Oak Orchard facility, Engine #80-3 and Brush #80-0 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.  Each response unit was assigned to specific incident responses.

As with standard protocol during periods of inclement weather, the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center is provided with utility pole identification information and related issue(s).  Then a representative of the utility service provider is notified in order to allocate resources to provide an adequate equipment response during these times of need.  Respective response periods may vary depending on the nature and quantity of incidents that may have occurred in our respective region.
