Indian River VFC Offers Firetruck Birthday Celebrations for Kids Unable To Throw Parties
As we all learn that social distancing is necessary during this coronavirus pandemic, it can be tough on children, especially when it comes to celebrating special events including but not limited to birthdays.
While birthday parties have been canceled because of the coronavirus, children must go about the day with stay-at-home orders and celebrate with family members. But then, they hear sirens on their street, they race outside and are greeted with something that is intended to make their birthday special and unforgettable.
A parade of firetrucks and fire police vehicles flash their lights and sound their sirens as they drive by. Sometimes a firefighter gets out of the truck to drop off some plastic firefighter hats, stickers and fire prevention materials or allows the family and birthday person to pose for pictures.
Please know that the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding fire companies are rolling out firetruck birthdays, complete with lights, sirens and safety messages in their respective fire district or assigned territory to further promote fire safety and fire prevention objectives.
It has been said that "….we as emergency responders often see people in the worst time of their days, but now, putting a smile on their face during these days of quarantine helps to put a smile in ours…"
Illustrated herewith are some these firetruck birthday events that were hosted today within Indian River’s fire district:
