Nature: Wires Down/Arching
Location: 30720 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, DE 19966
On Thursday, April 7th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for wires down on Mount Joy Road near the Baylis development entrance. It was reported to be a dump truck entangled in overhead wires causing an electrical outrage.
Emergency response units from Indian River included 80 Command, Chief 80, and Rescue 80 from the Oak Orchard area and Engine #80-1 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments incident mitigation with information relayed to the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center for notification of utility service provider, traffic control at the incident location, traffic control at John J. Williams Highway, Oak Orchard Road, and Mount Joy Road intersection associated with the power outrage, and evaluation of nearby transformers in the Bayliss development.
It appears that a dump truck was unloading dirt and got caught into overhead wires pulling them down and causing an electrical outrage.
The Delaware Electric Cooperative was notified and responded to resolve the issue.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control on Mount Joy Road for the duration of the incident as well as assisting the Delaware State Police at the John J. Williams Highway intersection.
