Nature: Structure Fire

Location: 31288 River Rd Millsboro, DE 19966

On Friday, March 27, 2020, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a residential structure fire on River Road between Layton Davis Road and Warwick Drive.

Emergency response units from Indian River included:  Tanker 80, Rescue 80, and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard area and Engines #80-1 and #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included fire suppression for what was identified as an oven fire, evaluation and monitor for extension into the wall and ceiling area, as well as overhaul and ventilation via positive pressure fans.  Tanker 80 deployed an 1¾” fire suppression line and advanced to the front door of the residential structure and also utilized thermal imaging cameras.

It appears that the occupant was attempting to cook and caught the kitchen wall and ceiling on fire as a result of the inattentive cooking measures.  The occupant of the residential structure was evaluated by the local emergency medical service provider.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and closed this segment of River Road for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating.
