Sunday July, 8 2012 @ 14:05:14 Nature: Vehicle Accident ALS Address: Cannon Rd and Mount Joy Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Sunday afternoon, July 8th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle accident on Mount Joy Road in the vicinity of Cannon Road. It was reported via the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) that a single vehicle has struck a utility pole and some of the occupants were trapped in the vehicle. Indian River’s Incident Command was coordinated by Chief Steven C. Deery, Jr. who provided a scene synopsis which included that a single vehicle has sheered the utility pole causing significant damage to the vehicle and trapping the driver inside the vehicle. It appears that a dark green mini-van was traveling north on Mount Joy Road and did not successfully navigate the sharp curve at the Cannon Road intersection and lost control allowing the vehicle to sheer the utility pole and trapping the driver of the vehicle. Emergency response units included Rescue 80 and Engine #80-1 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-5 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Sussex County Paramedics, the Delaware State Fire Police, the Delaware State Police, and the local emergency service provider. Emergency response crews were assigned to coordinate vehicle stabilization, where needed; assist with patient stabilization, where needed; commence with vehicle extrication measures on the mini-van; coordinate scene preservation measures; and provide traffic control assistance because Mount Joy Road was entirely closed for the duration of the incident. Incident Command notified EOC that additional resources would not be needed and that the Aviation Unit would not be utilized for transportation. The respective utility company will be required to replace the telephone pole as a result of the incident. The Delaware State Police are investigating. |
