Indian River VFC Reduces Public Access to Facilities - Effective 03/19/20

Due to the heightened risk and exposure to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the recent State of Emergency Declaration by Governor Carney closing public schools, restaurants, libraries, county and state government offices, and many public meetings and gatherings, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company will implement this COVID-19 policy for the duration of this event.

Please know that while undertaking these precautions and many other safety measures with respect to the pandemic coronavirus - we will respond as needed within our fire district.   Please know that communication and adherence to these procedures will only enhance your safety and potential well-being overall.

It is not an easy or popular option to make these decisions; however, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company believes this is an imperative decision in order to promote safety and well-being of our first responders, community residents and fire district.

Effective immediately, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company is closing the fire house facilities to the public during these unfortunate events.

We will post signs advising that our facility is not accepting visitors.

We will limit contact and public interaction as much as possible on emergency calls.

We will maintain safe distances and not make physical contact unless necessary.

We will not send entire crews into a building or area in order to minimize exposure concerns.

Please keep in mind that there are things every Delawarean can do to stay healthy:

• Wash your hands.

• Cover your cough.

• Stay home from work or school if you are sick.

• Maintain social distancing.

• Limit your interaction with large groups of people especially important for at-risk populations.

The one thing that will not be shut down is the volunteer fire service responding to emergencies in the State of Delaware.  As volunteers, we have chosen to protect our own, our communities, as well as our fire districts.  The volunteer fire service personnel will focus on taking a proactive and preventative approach to keep communities safe.

While undertaking precautions and many other safety measures with respect to the pandemic coronavirus - we will respond as needed within our fire district.

It is not an easy or popular decision to make these decisions; however, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company believes this is an imperative decision in order to promote safety and well-being of our members, community residents and fire district.

 Stay Safe Everyone!
