Nature: Vehicle Accident- John J. Williams Hwy.

Location: 26347 John J Williams Hwy Millsboro, DE 19966

On Tuesday, March 17th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for accident on John J. Williams Highway west of Harris Teeter.  It was reported to be two vehicle collision.

Emergency response units from Indian River included Ladder 80 from the Oak Orchard facility and Rescue 80 from the Long Neck facility as well as the local emergency medical service provider and the Delaware State Fire Police.

Emergency response crew assignments included traffic control, incident mitigation, vehicle stabilization, assist with patient stabilization if needed, fluid and debris recovery, and disconnect the vehicle’s electrical systems.

Upon arrival of Deputy Chief Mock, it was identified as two vehicles were found in the east bound lanes, with a camper blocking most of the roadway.

It appears that a Jeep Cherokee was towing a large recreational camper type trailer and traveling westbound on John J. Williams Highway while a Kia sedan was traveling eastbound when both vehicles collided for an unknown reason causing significant damage to all vehicles involved.  All vehicle occupants self-extricated, prior to the arrival of first responders.  Emergency medical technicians evaluated three of the vehicle occupants before transporting two with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated traffic control and set up a temporary detour for the duration of the incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
