Nature: Vehicle Accident BLS

On Monday evening, July 2nd, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for vehicle accident on River Road near Whit’s Point. It was reported to be a single vehicle, a moped type scooter, which was rounding the sharp curve and lost control for an unknown reason.

Safety Officer Steve Hawkins responded directly to the scene and provided Chief Deery with an update of the incident which included a single vehicle, moped type vehicle that slid off of the roadway in the grassy area. The cyclist was uninjured and refused additional medical attention.

Chief Deery downgraded the incident to Rescue 80 and the existing officers with all others returning or remaining at the station.

It appears that the cyclist was traveling west on River Road and failed to successful navigate the sharp curve while running off the roadway onto the grassy shoulder and losing control of the vehicle.

The Delaware State Fire Police provided traffic control assistance during the initial incident.

The Delaware State Police are investigating.
