On Monday, March 9th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a vehicle fire in the parking lot of Harris Teeter off Bay Farm Road.
Emergency response units from Indian River included Tanker 80 and Chief 80-15 from the Oak Orchard facility and Engine #80-3 from the Long Neck facility as well as the Delaware State Fire Police.
Emergency response crew assignments included vehicle access for fire suppression activities as well as vehicle stabilization.
It appears that a Suzuki Reno compact sedan was parked in the Harris Teeter parking lot. The occupant of the vehicle went into the grocery store and returned to find the fire company around her vehicle. The interior of the vehicle did suffer extensive damage as a result of the fire.
The Delaware State Fire Police coordinated scene preservation and perimeter control to minimize access for non-firefighter personnel.
