On Monday morning, June 25th, the Indian River (80), Lewes (82), Millsboro (83), Milton (85) and Rehoboth Beach (86) fire companies were alerted for numerous downed wires and trees, as well as a structure collapse and related damage associated with fallen trees within the communities of Angola, Pine Water Farms, Holiday Pines, Winding Creek Village, Shawn’s Hide-a-way, Canal Shores, Pines of Long Neck, and many others. At approximately 8:47 a.m, the National Weather Service in and for the Philadelphia / Mt. Holly, NJ issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Southeast Sussex County until 11:30 a.m. - Monday, June 25th. Shortly after 9 a.m., the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center started receiving calls for wires down, wires arching, structure collapse, trees in residential buildings, propane leak, etc. in the aforementioned communities. The Sussex County Emergency Operations was coordinating many activities with power outages, traffic operations, fire company operations, and many other incidents associated with the inclement weather. It appears that a severe thunderstorm with significant winds, and large hail caused damage to many areas of Sussex County. Illustrated herewith are photographs of impacted communities.
