Saturday June, 16 2012 @ 18:21:02 Nature: Assist Delaware State Police – Search for Missing 4 yr. old child Address: 28013 Chief Rd Millsboro, DE 19966 On Saturday afternoon, June 16th, the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company was alerted to assist the Delaware State Police with a search for a missing four (4) year old child. It was reported that the four (4) year old child, male, wearing khaki colored pants, orange shirt, long blonde hair, blue eyes and no shoes. The child was last seen around 18:00 hours in a cornfield adjacent to the residential property. Incident Command was coordinated by Ryan Mock who requested that Rescue 80, both brush units (80-0 & 80-00), as well as Polaris 80 respond to the incident. All responding units were apprised of the situation and requested to monitor Sussex Mutual Aid 1 as a working search channel which linked the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the Delaware State Police ground and air units and fire company resources. Incident Command immediately established a search grid, implemented assignments and tasks to carry out these initial responsibilities which included an immediate search of the entire cornfield with volunteers walking the majority of the row, utility vehicle assignments, and vehicle roadway assignments. Polaris 80 was assigned to coordinate a search pattern around the entire field and nearby residential locations. The Delaware State Police were coordinating an aerial search as well as a canine search of the adjacent field. Other responding units were assigned to coordinate search patterns in the Riverdale Park area. These initial search patterns were completed with no favorable responses. Additional resources were assigned to coordinate evaluation further towards the Indian River bay area. A passing motorists requested information and identified the location of the missing child. The Delaware State Police and one brush truck unit were dispatched to verify the information. The child was found and transported back to the residential location and reunited with his parents. |
